Dear Telstra BigPond(TM) Member Telstra has communicated to all BigPond members over the past few months the changes to the pricing structure of its Freedom plan, which came into effect on 1 December 2001. A 3 Gigabyte (GB) allowance was attached to the plan and a charge for additional usage (i.e. usage above 3GB) was introduced at 18.9c per Megabyte. A usage meter is provided to all members to regularly update them on their usage levels and we have also set up a system where automatically generated emails are sent to customers to notify them as they approach their monthly allowance. Notwithstanding these measures being implemented by Telstra, we've noticed a small proportion of members have incurred significant additional usage charges in the first month of operation of the new pricing structure - December 2001. We recommend that these members consider switching to another plan with a higher monthly usage allowance if their December usage is indicative of their future usage, so as to avoid incurring additional usage charges. Switching plans may result in cost savings for these members. ADSL and Cable Members can switch between plans on the same access platform at no cost. As a goodwill transition gesture by Telstra to its 3G Freedom Plan members only, we have decided to provide a once-off credit of 50% of the additional usage charges listed on their bill for the month of December 2001. We will not repeat this offer for future bills so we encourage members to monitor their usage in consideration of the allowance of their current plan. This 50 percent credit will be credited to the January 2002 bill. Please pay the FULL amount of your December bill and your credit will appear on your January 2002 bill.
